"The ideal cure is the rapid, gently and permanent restoration of health; that is, the lifting and annihilation of the disease in its entire extent in the shortest, reliable and least disadvantageous way. These are the basic principles of Homeopathy."

Derived from the Greek word homoios meaning similar-and pathos meaning suffering, homeopathy is an alternative medical system that treats the symptoms of a disease with minute doses of a natural substance or remedy.
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) was a German medical doctor and the founder of homeopathy, disenfranchised with the treatments prevalent in his day. He wrote emphatically about the treatments, such as bloodletting, and the use of arsenic, mercury, and other toxic metals. He also wrote extensively on many topics, such as the misuse of coffee, and the need for hygiene. Many of his medical ideas were well accepted in his time. Goethe himself is quoted as saying he was following the directives of "the good doctor Hahnemann."
Rather than use the conventional methods of his time, Hahnemann refused to practice medicine. He supported his wife and eleven children by translating medical texts. He was skilled in 13 languages, including Greek, Roman, and Aramaic, and translated numerous ancient medical works.

Discovery of homeopathy :
Hahnemann observed from his experiments with cinchona bark, used as a treatment for malaria, that the effects he experienced from ingesting the bark were similar to the symptoms of malaria. He therefore reasoned that cure proceeds through similarity, and that treatments must be able to produce symptoms in healthy individuals similar to those of the disease being treated. Through further experiments with other substances, Hahnemann conceived of the law of similars, otherwise known as;like cures like; (Latin: similia similibus curentur) as a fundamental healing principle. He believed that by inducing a disease through use of drugs, the artificial symptoms empowered the vital force to neutralise and expel the original disease and that this artificial disturbance would naturally subside when the dosing ceased. When he finally discovered homeopathy, he began to practice, and continued to practice until late into his 88th year, only weeks before his death

Homeopathy has been widely used throughout the world for more than 200 years. In 2000, the House of Lords' Select Committee on Science & Technology cited homeopathy as one of the five Group One therapies, having "an individual diagnostic approach" along with osteopathy, chiropractic, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

It works on the principle of "like cures like" - that is, a substance that would cause symptoms in a healthy person is used to cure those same symptoms in illness. For example, one remedy which might be used in a person suffering from insomnia is coffea, a remedy made from coffee

Minimum Doses :
Hahnemann discovered, through experimentation, that he could use very small doses. He developed a system of succussion and dilution, which potentized substances so he could use smaller and smaller amounts of medicine to exact a cure.

Flower remedies can be produced by placing flowers in water and exposing them to sunlight. The most famous of these are the Bach flower remedies, which were developed by the homeopath Edward Bach. Although the proponents of these remedies share homeopathy's vitalist world-view and the remedies are claimed to act through the same  "vital force" as homeopathy, the method of preparation is different. Bach flower remedies are prepared in "gentler" ways such as placing flowers in bowls of sunlit water, and the remedies are not succussed.

Useful Information on Swine Flu

What is swine flu

Swine flu (swine influenza) is a disease of pigs. It is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by one of many Influenza A viruses. Approximately 1% to 4% of pigs that get swine flu die from it. It is spread among pigs by direct and indirect contact, aerosols, and from pigs that are infected but do not have symptoms. In many parts of the world pigs are vaccinated against swine flu.

Most commonly, swine flu is of the H1N1 influenza subtype. However, they can sometimes come from the other types, such as H1N2, H3N1, and H3N2.

The current outbreak of swine flu that has infected humans is of the H1N1 type - this type is not as dangerous as some others.

Examples of known swine flu infecting humans:

Since the World Health Organization's (WHO's) implementation of IHR (2005) in 2007, they have been notified of swine influenza cases from the US and Spain.. more
